In the year 1935 United States declared holiday on every 1st Sunday in the month of August to honour friends by a public statement made by the Congress. Since then Friendship Day has been celebrated not only in the United Sates but around the world.

Friendship day is celebrated on the first Sunday in the month of August. Friendship day today has become a tradition. People make new friends, honour their old friends, get together and celebrate. There are different ways friend greet each others such as by exchanging flowers or cards and even sending SMS’s.
With new technology the communication has become faster and with social networking people are in constant touch with their friends, on the move. However the older methods such as greeting cards and friendship wrist bands are still preferred.Friendship day is more popular amongst youngsters especially in school and colleges. This is a day when many seek out to make new friends.
Friendship day is not celebrated, just once; every year in fact there are many different versions. The popular Friendship day is on first Sunday in August, the third Sunday in August is celebrated as the women’s friendship day, month of February is the international friendship month and third week of May is for old friends / new friend’s week. As rightly said a friend in need is a friend indeed so go ahead celebrate friendship day, make new friends, but most important express your love to your close friends and let them know how important they are to you.
