She may not realize it, but your secret weapon to reel her in is undoubtedly your sense of humor.

Sound familiar? It should to a lot of men. 34% of men surveyed in AskMen.com’s Great Male Survey 2009 Edition said their sense of humor was their secret weapon to attract women.

Sense of humor outranked charm, intelligence, confidence, conversation skills, looks, talent and money, respectively, in the United States poll.

(Hmm…a certain “Friends” episode comes to mind, Friends/Seinfeld theory at work here, where Chandler thinks his relationship with Monica is in jeopardy when she says her new maitre d is “without a doubt the funniest guy I have ever met…”)

I am here to say—men, you are absolutely right on this one! Most women I know think a sense of humor is a critical component in their relationships. In fact, I daresay most women look for that and will gladly spend more time getting to know a man if he keeps her laughing. I once dated a guy who wasn’t really attractive to me initially, but he constantly made me laugh.

And, I don’t mean a little polite giggle here and there. I mean full-out, spontaneous belly laughs. The more time I spent with him, the more I laughed and suddenly the more attractive and, consequently, the more boyfriend-material he became.

This agreement between the sexes (guys thinking being funny is their secret weapon, girls thinking it’s an absolute must-have) provides vast opportunities in dating. What one finds as funny, another does not, and vice versa.

There are tons of different kinds of funny guys: the quiet guy who delivers deadpan one-liners with the straightest of faces, the in-your-face funny guy always with something hilarious to say, the inappropriate humor guy who you can’t help but laugh at even if you don’t want to, the sarcastic guy with the faintest trace of sardonicism and my personal favorite.

The inadvertently funny guy who doesn’t even really try but just winds up being funny because he just is. Whatever your shtick, work it. Girls love a confident guy, and if your sense of humor makes you confident, go for it. Guaranteed there’s a woman who will laugh and most likely turn her head your direction!
