Making Ends Meet Causes Relationship Neglect

Making Ends Meet Causes Relationship NeglectHalf of the adults in the study admit not prioritising family, friends or partners in their everyday routine as they would ideally like to.

1.5 million more people worry about neglecting their partners than did a year ago, 39 percent of the population in total, the Scottish Widows’ annual Priorities of Life Index found.

A lack of free time and focusing on making ends meet in the current economic climate are two of the main reasons given for pushing relationships to the side.

“Families are continuing to feel the pressure and unfortunately for many, it’s the relationships with their kids and partners that are taking most of the strain,” said Iain McGowan, Scottish Widows savings expert.

“The recession may be technically over, but its after-effects are still being felt across the country.”

The study also revealed nearly one in three, 15 million people, would ideally like more time for family and friends.

The 30 somethings are the age group most likely to prioritise spending any spare time with their kids over their partner, while those in their 40s are more likely to focus on dealing with financial pressures.

The financial slump however was shown to have prompted more than two thirds of Brits to take stock of what matters to them most.  Five million people as a result have adopted a better work-life balance.

Those in their 30s are the most likely to get on top of their working hours, while more men than women have moved to achieve a better work-life balance in the last 12 months.

If you are struggling to make ends meet, a prepaid credit card could help you budget your outgoings, so the strain of working overtime is eased.
